Annual Conference
Make plans now to attend the 2009 MCSS Annual Fall Conference!The theme for this year’s conference is Dreams and Deeds: the Civic Mission of Schools. Pre-register before October 1 and save $10!
When: Monday and Tuesday, October 19 – 20, 2009
Where: Pearl River Resort, Choctaw, Mississippi
Speakers: Melanie Auth, from the Close Up Foundation, will speak at the plenary session. Phil Hardwick, Coordinator of Capacity Development at the John C. Stennis Institute of Government at Mississippi State University, will speak at the Tuesday luncheon. Neil White, Mississippi author, is the featured guest at the Monday evening reception hosted by the Mississippi Geographic Alliance.
Concurrent sessions with a variety of topics will be made available to attendees during the conference, as will vendor displays both days.
Pre-conference Opportunities: On Monday morning, early bird arrivals will be given the option to participate in a Civil Rights Driving Tour for a fee of $5 or to take part in a pre-conference workshop hosted by the Mississippi Geographical Alliance. More information about the pre-conference workshop will be available at a later date.The conference will officially begin at 1 pm on Monday and will conclude after the Tuesday business luncheon at 1 pm.
Hotel Information: A block of rooms is being held at the Silverstar Hotel. Call 1.866.44PEARL for reservations and be sure to ask for the MCSS conference rate of $89. The deadline to receive the MCSS rate is September 27.
Additional Information: Continuing Education Units are offered to interested conference participants. The cost is $10 for .5 CEU's. In order to receive the CEU's, individuals must attend all conference sessions. No partial credit will be awarded.
